The musicians of the Lake Oswego Millennium Concert Band (LOMCB) are excited to present their third concert of the 2022-2023 season on Sundayevening, May 7, at 7:30 pm, at Lakeridge High School Auditorium. As usual, there is no admission charge. Doors open at 6:30 pm giving you time before the concert to visit artists in the lobby while listening to pre-concert music from the Rosemont Trombone Quartet.
The Program
The title and theme of this concert is Choose Joy! Happiness isn’t something that just happens; it is a conscious choice that we make, and that we can make even during difficult times in our lives. We will explore choosing joy musically throughout the evening in the selections that we play.
Explore the joy of being immersed in movies past and present with a Henry Mancini medley, Porgy and Bess (featuring Gary Mitchell on saxophones), plus music from Star Trek and Saving Private Ryan. Experience the joy of living on this amazing planet with its mysterious wonders through an exciting piece called Aurora Borealis. Feel the joy of the pioneers who blazed trails and built this country through two pieces: one centering on the beauty of the Dakotas, and one about the rivers that connect us together (with a special appearance by guest conductor Jim Irving). And there is always joy in a Sousa march.
We will also joyfully celebrate one of our own—Dan Ogren—as we perform the world premiere of a piece he composed during the pandemic and will direct. This is just a sampling of what you will hear during the evening.
We hope you will join us for this concert and bring your friends. The concert starts at 7:30 pm, but the doors open at 6:30 pm. Come early to visit the artistsin the lobby as they share their joy making jewelry and ceramics. We also have a special miniatures exhibit providing you a window into the world of those that make miniatures and the joy they take in creating them. Start your evening in a joyful mood by listening to pre-concert music in the lobby from the Rosemont Trombone Quartet.
