About

The Lake Oswego Millennium Concert Band (LOMCB) is a full instrumentation concert band of 72 musicians. We provide high quality musical presentations to Lake Oswego and the surrounding areas.  LOMCB is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

We perform three formal concerts in the Lakeridge High School Auditorium each season before a highly responsive and loyal audience of between 450 and 600 people.  In addition, LOMCB presents a patriotic concert the evening of July 3rd at Millennium Park Plaza in downtown Lake Oswego.  A smaller group of band members also plays for the Annual Christmas Tree Lighting in Millennium Park each year.

LOMCB also has three small ensembles – a clarinet quartet (The Millennium Clarinets), a brass quintet (The Millennium Brass), and a wind quintet (The Millennium Winds) .  The largest performance ensemble is the 18-member Millennium Dance Band. These highly accomplished ensembles perform regularly throughout the Portland Metro area and are available to perform at concerts, private parties, receptions, weddings and most other venues where the addition of fine music will add to the success of the event.  The Millennium Dance Band performs dance and concert music as performed by the “Big Bands” of the 1930’s, 40’s and 50’s, with an occasional selection from more recent times. This popular group is available to perform for your dance and concert events. For more information on these groups, see Ensembles.

History

The Lake Oswego Millennium Concert Band (LOMCB) was formed in the fall of 1999 as part of the Millennium celebration sponsored by the City of Lake Oswego.  The charge for the band was to perform one of a series of concerts and activities that would lead the Lake Oswego community toward a grand community celebration of the coming of the new millennium.  Dale Cleland, a long-time Lake Oswego resident and former Lake Oswego Schools Director of Music, was appointed as director of the new organization.  A call for musicians went out and rehearsals started soon thereafter for the 55 member concert band.

Our band had a highly successful concert in November, 1999, and since the musicians and their director were having so much fun, it was decided to continue the band’s rehearsal and performance schedule.  We played a well received concert at Marylhurst University in early April, 2000, and performed again before a large and enthusiastic crowd in the newly dedicated Millennium Park Plaza in downtown Lake Oswego in June, 2000.

Since that first concert in 1999, the band has grown to a full instrumentation concert band of 72 musicians.
