Concert February 26, 2023

The musicians of the Lake Oswego Millennium Concert Band are excited to present their second concert of the 2022-2023 season on Sunday evening, February 26, at 7:30 pm, at Lakeridge High School Auditorium. As usual, there is no admission charge. Doors open at 6:30 pm giving you time before the concert to visit artists in the lobby while listening to pre-concert music from the Millennium Brass.

The Program

The title of this concert is Around the World in 3/4 TimeAround the Worldrefers to the international nature of the selections, while 3/4 Time refers to many of the pieces that are dances of some kind, be it a Middle Eastern Arabesque, Spanish Mambo, or Irish Reel.

Highlighting this concert is a virtuoso euphonium solo work called Carmen Fantasy, based on various themes from the opera Carmen. Our soloist, Jeff Binns, has been a member of the Millennium Concert band for many years and has performed other solos with us in the past. He is truly a master of his instrument and will dazzle you with his dexterity and tone.

Look forward to music from West Side Story by Leonard Bernstein, a beautiful arrangement of Amazing Grace by Frank Ticheli, Arabesque by Samuel Hazo, a jubilant Exultation by Philip Sparke, Folk Dances by Dmitri Shostakovich, and Molly on the Shore by Percy Grainger. March fans should listen carefully for a piece from John Philip Sousa. You will hear Marche Scherzo from the First Symphony by Camille Saint-Saens, transcribed for band by our very own Christopher Steig, a member of our talented bass clarinet section.

We hope you will join us for this concert and bring your friends. The concert starts at 7:30 pm, but the doors open at 6:30 pm. Come early to visit the artists in the lobby and listen to pre-concert music by the Millennium Brass.
