Independence Day gives us a chance to reflect on the freedoms we enjoy by living in the United States and to recognize the many men and women who have given so much to ensure the continuation of those freedoms. We invite you, your family and friends to join us on Monday, July 3rd, the eve of our Nation’s birthday, at Millennium Plaza Park in downtown Lake Oswego for a concert that is designed to kindle your patriotic spirit.
Our theme, as always, for this highly patriotic concert is the United States of America! Our concert celebrates all things American: American music, American entertainment, and America itself. And, what better way to kick off America’s birthday than with An American Fanfare by Rick Kirby.
Patriotic music, broadway music, movie themes, Americana, big band music – we have a lot in store for you. Listen for the alto saxohone midway through Rhapsodic Celebration by Robert Sheldon. Enjoy the trombone section in Seventy Six Trombones from “The Music Man” arranged by Ted Ricketts. Let’s go to Disneyland! Listen for familiar melodies from your childhood as we play A Disneyland Celebration arranged by Michael Brown.
Joining our Musical Director, John Carter, at the podium, our Director Emeritus, Dale Cleland will share his love of big band music with you as he conducts Beguine for Band by Glenn Osser, and Big Band Spectacular, a medley arranged by Jack Bullock, plus one of our special patriotic pieces.
We are excited to have vocalist Tiffany Carter with us again this year! She will join us for the Star Spangled Banner as well as Blue Moon by Rodgers and Hart.
We know you love marches. Marches you will hear include The Washington Post by John Philip Sousa and the March from “1941” written by John Williams.
During our traditional, very patriotic finale you will hear the always popular Salute to the Armed Forces, where we honor present and past members of our military services and others who have served us so well. As we always do, we will conclude our concert by playing the stirring arrangement by Carmen Dragon of America the Beautiful followed by our National March, The Stars and Stripes Forever by John Philip Sousa.
The intent of this program is to whet your Patriotic appetite, to stir within you the pride of being an American and to entertain you in a way that is best accomplished by listening to a fine band in the park on a beautiful summer evening.
Please join us at Millennium Plaza Park in downtown Lake Oswego on July 3. Concert time is 7:00 pmbut come early to hear Brass Unlimited perform from 6:15-to 6:45. Bring your chairs, something to nibble on, and your patriotic spirit. We promise a thoroughly entertaining evening!
