Concert March 5, 2017

I hope you are ready for some great band music, as the Lake Oswego Millennium Concert Band will perform a concert at 7:30 pm on Sunday, March 5, 2017. As always, it will be in the auditorium at Lakeridge High School in Lake Oswego. There is no admission charge, but we do hope you will be able to help us with our finances by making a tax deductible donation to our band, so we will be able to continue to offer our music to you at no charge for admission.

We survived the winter so far and have been rehearsing extra hard to make up for the two rehearsals we missed due to the snow and ice. We have wonderful music to share and know you will be pleased with both the music and our presentation of the music to you. We are excited to be able to welcome members of the Navy Band Northwest from the Puget Sound area of Washington to this concert. Their brass quintet, The Five Star Brass, will perform in the lobby prior to the concert beginning at 6:45 pm. Later, Musician Third Class, Daniel Arute will be our major soloist during the concert performing on trumpet “The Norma Variations,” adapted by Arthur Pryor from the opera Norma, by Vencenzo Bellini. Other solo highlights during this program will be played by four of our featured flute players in “Evening Snow at Kambara”, a beautiful piece written by contemporary composer Julie Giroux, and our entire clarinet section will be featured as they perform a lively tune called “Pie In the Face Polka” written by Henry Mancini for the movie The Great Race. Two foot-tapping marches, “Them Basses” by Getty Huffine and “The White Rose” by John Philip Sousa, should satisfy your need to hear marches.  A wonderful piece called “Shadow Waltzes” by Brian Balmages and “Italian Rhapsody”, where you will hear many of your favorite Italian tunes all woven together by Julie Girioux, will certainly make you glad you came to the concert. Sound tracks from popular movies will be heard as we perform “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and “At The Movies – The Classics”. Our opener, “Dawn of a New Day” by James Swearingen, is designed to let you know we are anxious to play for you and our encore, “The Kansas Two Step” by Arthur Pryor, should send you home with a happy heart, a smile on your face and a bounce in your step.

The doors open at 6:30 pm to allow you to browse the artwork of our local artists and to listen to music performed by the Five Star Brass Quintet from the Navy Band of the Northwest. Please join us as we present a wonderful evening of art and music for your enjoyment.
