The Lake Oswego Millennium Concert Band will be playing their final formal concert of the season Sunday, May 22. The free concert will be held in the Lakeridge High School Auditorium and will begin at 7:30 pm (doors open at 6:30 pm). This concert will be the send-off performance prior to the band’s upcoming trip to Washington D.C. The band has been rehearsing music they believe will be musically interesting and will convey to their audiences that band music is alive and well in Oregon as they perform in our Nation’s Capitol. Band members would love to entertain you next Sunday with many of the selections they will be performing while in Washington D.C. The band is proud to be representing Lake Oswego and the entire state of Oregon as they perform as part of the year-long National Festival of States Concert Series, that commemorates the 75th anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor.
As in all of our concerts, this concert will feature a varied array of different styles and types of music, so every audience member should hear music they will enjoy. Of special interest, Jeff Binns who has been featured twice in years past, will perform a very technically demanding and beautiful solo for Euphonium and band called Pantomime. Also featured, will be the trombone section in a ragtime piece called Lassus Trombone. We will musically present our beautiful state of Oregon by playing a very descriptive piece called Beautiful Oregon. Plus, two selections of very different styles by contemporary composers, Rhapsodic Celebrations and Among the Clouds, will certainly highlight the band’s beautiful, rich sound and technical abilities. In the more popular vein, the band will present selections from George Gershwin’s Opera Porgy and Bess and a medley of music from the swing era titled Big Band Spectacular. Two marches are always on our program; this time you will hear the Black Horse Troop by John Philip Sousa and The Boys of Wexford arranged by Sammy Nestico. A fitting Dixieland arrangement of Bill Bailey, Won’t You Please Come Home will send you home as the final encore.
Please join us next Sunday, May 22, at Lakeridge High School. Doors open at 6:30 so you will have time to listen to the Millennium Clarinet Quartet in the lobby as you view the artwork of three local artists prior to the 7:30 pm concert time. As always, there is no admission charge for admission for this concert.
