Concert May 18, 2025

The Lake Oswego Millennium Concert Band (LOMCB) invites you to join us for some great music on Sunday evening, May 18, at 7:00 pm, at the Lakeridge High School Auditorium. As usual, there is no admission charge, but donations are gratefully accepted. Doors open at 6:00 pm giving you time before the concert to listen to pre-concert music from the West Linn High School Jazz Combo and visit the artists in the lobby.

Musical Movements

A lot of great music is written in movements. Played together or separately, each movement can stand and shine on its own. Many of the pieces we will play are either a movement of a larger work or are compositions with multiple movements.

The Finale or 4th movement of Tchaikovsky’s Symphony in F Minor No. 4 brings an energetic and festive feel to our concert. The 2nd movement of “Three Folk Song Settings for Band” is a lullaby titled All the Pretty Little Horses where the band musicians may surprise you with how it ends. Written in the style of music from Balkan countries, all three movements of Jan Van der Roost’s Balkanya are a joy to listen to.

Yes! We have a march for you – John Philip Sousa’s Thunderer March – plus, a hike on the Pacific Crest Trail in Robert Sheldon’s Pacific Crest. Join us for “an Americana dance of instruments” where Carol Britton Chambers has fused style elements of classical, jazz, Latin, and rock in Symphonic Dance No. 1. Also in our program is a piece Leroy Anderson wrote for Arther Fiedler and The Boston Pops called Fiddle-Faddle as well as a two-movement piece by James Curnow called Partita for Band.

You may think of the heroes in your life as you listen to Heal, the 2nd movement from “Suite for the Heroes Among Us” by Robert W. Smith. The Magic of Andrew Lloyd Webber is a medley of many of Webber’s greatest hits arranged by Warren Barker. See how many of his songs you can identify in this arrangement.

We have a special treat for you at this concert. Joining LOMCB Musical Director Dr. John Carter at the podium will be Dave Matthys, retired Lake Oswego band director and district music coordinator. With two such talented conductors on the podium, it promises to be a truly special evening.

We hope you will join us for this concert and bring your friends. The concert starts at 7:00 pm, but the doors open at 6:00 pm. Come early to listen to pre-concert music in the lobby from the West Linn High School Jazz Combo and visit the artists in the lobby.
